Country crooner, Lance Miller, the 2004 Nashville Star finalist who is signed with Warner Brothers records, credits his dad for his musical taste and ability. “My dad was a huge influence on me. He was popular in our area in Southern Illinois. The music he sang is what shaped my tastes, and they haven’t changed much,” says Lance. I was a big fan of the 80’s rock stuff. Dad and I differed in this, for sure. He sang a lot of Merle Haggard, and that style seemed to suit me well. Country melodies are what I felt I sang the best.”
Lance grew up in Wayne County, Illinois. “ Wayne City is where I lived for the first few years of grade school. We later moved to the big city of Fairfield.” He is now living in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife and daughter. “I have a beautiful wife, Melissa, and the prettiest daughter in Tennessee. Her name is Presley. I am very blessed with a supportive wife. She has been with me every step here in Nashville. We will be married 14 years in August. I got married when I was twelve!” Lance says, laughing.
“I have a very loving family,” Lance says. “I have a brother who lives here in Nashville, as well. He's one of my best buds. We talk everyday and he is a big part of my life here. The rest of my family is still in Illinois. Presley brings them to town often, and I like that.”
He attributes his childhood with making him the man he is today. “I think my parents divorcing when I was ten shaped who I was as a young person. It probably made me worry more than I should have. We had a few rough years after that, but I had grandparents who pulled us all through.. Looking back, I had a very blessed childhood in many ways. Having Presley come into this world really brought things into a great space for me. Funny how over time, all I can recall are good things about my family. I love them all very much.”
“I was a shy kid, but not afraid to entertain all at the same time. I was voted friendliest in high school, so I guess I was pretty nice!” That formerly shy kid opened for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill during 2007 the Soul2Soul tour. “It was my first time using ear monitors. The sound engineer let me know I needed to do a couple more songs in my ears, and I answered him over the microphone. I did this at least two more times during that show. There were some confusing looks on the crowd’s faces at the MGM in Vegas that night as to who I was talking to.”
Currently, Lance is working on a project he’s very excited about. “I'm doing a duo with a good friend and talent Eddie Perez. He is Dwight Yoakam’s guitar player. I think we have a shot at great things together. The music is great, and I pray we're to the age we can do it right and how we want to do it.. That is important to me at this stage in my music and life.”
Lance sees his future as bright. “I'm so lucky to be a part of a business that I love so much. I rarely dread anything I do. Seems like there is something I'm always chasing with music, and I like my life that way.”
