“I live a really normal life. I just always wanted something more,” says 14-year-old singer-songwriter Elizabeth Abbott, who prefers to be called Elise. “My life is the same everyday and I just want to change that and do something amazing with my life. All I ever think about is this dream. During school, I’m in a different world while I dream this wild dream of sharing my music with the world. Music holds me together and is the biggest part of my life. I live a normal life as a girl who is just trying to find her place in the world, and I believe singing is my home, the place where I belong.”
Her resolve was set by a very personal loss she experienced, “My grandmother loved it when I sang. I loved singing with her; it was my favorite way to sing. When she died last year, I knew that singing was the thing for me.”
Elise continues, “When I was a little girl, I used to sing for every family get together. At school, when I was in kindergarten, at lunch after everybody was done eating, there was a time for me to sing. No joke, everyday after lunch, I sang for the school. Everything from ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ to ‘I've Been Working on the Railroad.’”
“I always knew that I was an okay singer, but I never knew that I had potential until in sixth grade at a musical audition at school. I was practicing outside of the audition room, singing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow.’ Someone came up with sunglasses on and said to me, ‘You have a wonderful voice. I was wondering if you would like to be on my label.’ I knew he was a high schooler, so I didn't start crying from joy, I started laughing and I said, ‘Thanks.’ Then he said to me, ‘If I was a music producer, I would want you.’ That story will stay with me forever.”
Born and raised in the tiny town of Ayer, Massachusetts, about forty-five minutes outside of Boston, Elise has been singing country music as long as she can remember, “I love telling stories and that is just what country music does. I grew up with it because my mom is a huge fan. My favorite to sing is Patsy Cline. I love her music the most. All the kids at school make fun of me because I’m the one who wears cowboy boots and knows every country song ever. But I’m fine with that because it just makes me, me and not another person that someone walks by in the hallway.”
The self-proclaimed ‘good kid’ says, “I listen to my parents. I never have gotten a detention or anything,” she adds laughing, “Knock on wood.”
“My parents really raised me well and I love them for that. I loved playing as a kid and being with people and I asked a million questions. My childhood was so much fun. I live in this little neighborhood, with a kid in every house. We all grew up together and played in the street and performed shows and everything. All the friends I had as a kid are still my friends now. It is so great.”
“I live with my mom and dad. I have an older brother, Nick. Also, I have an older sister, Heather. My family fights like crazy, but, at the end of the day, we know that we love each other. I have two dogs, Dakota and Dempsey. They are family, of course, along with my two cats, Nala and Charlie. Both sides of my family are huge on account of my dad has five other siblings and my mom has four other siblings, so it would take awhile to list them all, but I love them with every heartbeat.”
Elise is now working with a recording studio and even though she is just starting out on the path to her dreams, she is confident she is headed in the right direction, “I just want people to hear my music. I don't really care if my name isn’t next to it. As long as my voice is heard, I am all set. I don't want to be just another singer. I want to make differences and help the world the best to my ability. I’m not doing this for fame. This is all about having fun and entertaining people and giving some good music. Also, in the future, I hope to do some acting. I am me and nobody is going to change me. God put me here as me, to be the best and follow my dreams and that is just what I am going to do. Hollywood wouldn't change me. I would still put me into everything that I do.”
“Singing is where I belong. All the memories will remain inside me forever and I know that they are the things that got me here. I love my life and what God has given me, and I am very thankful. This is what my grandmother told me that I was made to do. She has taught me so much, and continues teaching me from Heaven and I will always love her. God loves me and always will. He will be by my side as I ride this roller coaster called life.”
