Hello there! My name is Paul Zettler, I am from Meridian, Mississipi, birthplace of rock and roll, country, and home of the blues!
I realized I had a love of music from a very early age. I feel like it chose me. I had such an intense interest in knowing what this thing called music was, it drove me to start searching for the answer. I picked country music for its simplicity and the directness of a country song’s message. I thing all things in life should deal in simplicity!
I was born the fourth child in a family of ten. My father was a military man who grew up singing in doo-wop groups. I guess that seeped into me. Being from such a large family, I realized early on that to get attention you had to get in the game and play. Every one in the family played in the school band throughout high school. I developed an interest in the bass guitar, which worked out great for me because two of my brothers are drummers. Almost everyone in the family are really good vocalists. We would harmonize in church or out on the dirt road. A few of us took it further and started getting together with local players and finding out how much fun this was! I was hooked.
I play saxophone, bass guitar, and guitar. I met a friend who wrote songs and I had a light bulb moment. I could actually make up stuff and put it in a song. I was born with a huge imagination, which fit right in with that. I would listen to all the great songs and try to figure out what made them that way. My formal training was from Hank, Merle, Ronnie Van Zant and so on and so forth!
I am working on a project now that will be done by the end of April that will get me out there sharing my songs and music with real people. I have such love of connecting and meeting people all over. I think I bring a new perspective, my perspective, to everyone. I believe music has that power to say, ‘Hey, what do you think of this? This is what I think.’ I keep it simple. The great songs relate to everyday individuals. They deal with real peoples’ feelings. That is what great art is supposed to do. I don't want to get too deep but love and the human condition are the whole deal. Kris Kristofferson said, ‘Music is the closest thing to the expression of the soul.’ If it makes you laugh, cry or get angry, it has done its job. It is the real things we all deal with as human beings on our little walk through this world. That being said, it is also the most damn fun you can have! People come up to me after I play a gig and say, ‘You look like you are having so much fun.’ I say, ‘I am!’ You cannot fake real. I keep it real! I look forward to taking my music all over the place to say. Come on let's party!
