“When I was in my first church musical, everyone had left and the show was over. I was still sitting on the corner of the stage when it was time to go. I looked at my mom and said, ‘I don’t want to leave,’” says fifteen year old singer Celeste. “The stage is where I am most comfortable and at home.”
Ever since her choir director asked her to do a solo in church when she was seven or eight, Celese knew what she wanted to do, even though, perhaps, her technique needed some work, “To look back on those videos now, I’m like, ahhh. That’s terrible,” she says laughing. “I have been singing and dancing for as long as I can remember. It’s basically my life. It’s who I am.” In 2006, Celeste tried out and was chosen to perform with Radio Disney. During her one-year term, she opened for such acts as Raven, The Jonas Brothers and performed at the Kelly Clarkson Addicted to Love tour and The Cheetah Girls/ Hannah Montana concert. She remembers of that time, “It taught me discipline because I had to keep my schoolwork and grades up while performing and attending rehearsals.” But, it also brought some awe inspiring moments, such as the one she relates happened with fellow performer, Ashton Harrell, “We ran out in front of 7000 people and I saw all these glow sticks. I looked at Ashton standing next to me and I said, “This is so cool!” He said, “I know.” I will never forget that moment.”
Since then, she and Ashton have joined forces along with three other teens to create the group No Limit. They combine pop tunes with a spin of today’s country music. The five honor role students are currently finalizing plans for the film No Limit: Much Ado About Middle School. Last July, Celeste was invited to attend the School of Pop in Hollywood, where she met music producer, Andrew Lane. “Since then, I have traveled to Nashville several times to write, record, and tape four original songs. Right now, we are working on getting the songs on Itunes. My first singles, Granddaddy’s Island and My Jeans, should be on there in March. While in Nashville, I also recorded a Christmas song for Lamon Records along with a music video that was sent out to 2,000 radio stations. I am also currently in negotiation with a record label out of L.A. Further information will be released at a later date.” That experience found Celeste living another surreal moment, “I was recording the scratch vocals for my original songs. We were at a studio and the engineer said that the booth I was in was where Miley Cyrus recorded. I was like AWESOME!”
The busy teen still finds time to just be a kid, “I have a great life! I’m an only child and I have a Golden Retriever named Jordan. My family is very supportive of me and I have really cool friends! I take all honors courses in high school. To date I have all A’s, but we have a report card coming up, so keep your fingers crossed,” she laughs. “Along with singing, I am up to any challenge in sports!!!! I just love the action in sports. I like to play soccer. It is a really fun contact sport where you can run really fast! I can jump on the Pogo Stick without holding on with my hands, too,” she exclaims.
Along with singing and sports, Celeste finds time to take voice, dance and guitar lessons. She loves editing videos and choreographing dances. She also finds time to give back to the community, “I was raised in the church and I have been raised that it is not all about me and I should find ways to give back. I have tried to do that with my group by performing at different charities. I would like to represent different charities and help them with what I do!”
Celeste now feels confident in her talent and who she is, but that wasn’t always the case, “A few years ago, before I went onstage my face would turn beet red and my cheeks were burning up. I was scared to death to go onstage, but I told myself, ‘If you keep putting yourself out there, it will get better.’ And it did,” she says with a smile. “I am just the girl next door who loves to sing and perform. I would do it even if no one was in the room! I love it that much.”
