Like his Backwater Still band mates and life long friends, Terry Crumley grew up in the mountains near the border of North Georgia and Chattanooga, Tennessee. “I play bass and some guitar and sing lead vocals on about half our stuff. Chip Ables is Lead guitar player and backing vocals. Shannon Dunn is the other lead vocalist and he plays lead and rhythm. Live, all three of us play guitars,” he says.
“He wanted to play in my band but the singer didn’t want him to,” Terry says of Chip as he begins to tell how the band came together. “We later got together and played heavy music that went nowhere. Later I hooked up with a country singer and asked Chip to play with us, he did for a couple years or so. Then he went back to the heavy stuff. We later went country again and came across Shannon, he and Chip had gone to school together. We played for a few years, wrote some songs, played covers a lot, played frat shows. We ended up turning a little too rock for my taste. Chip started playing in a heavy band again. They did quite well; their name was 17th Sun. After they broke up we started back at the country again.”
Playing music on the side Terry runs a landscaping business, Chip has a painting company and Shannon has a used car lot. The band is now playing and recording some in Nashville. They are hoping to get some of their songs published.
“I was blessed with a lot of different talents but hindered in other ways,” says Terry. “It’s sad that I never really lived up to my potential but, hopefully the music I leave behind will make whoever hears it feel something, happiness, sadness, hope maybe…knowing that someone else has felt the same way they are feeling or gone through something they are going thru..”
