Band: Savannah Jack
Review: I Will Go Back

Most up and coming bands start out pretty rough with their music and singing, but for Savannah Jack it’s a whole different story. Their music is amazing, and the lyrics are magnificent. You don’t just have to go listen for the music; they have wonderfully hilarious personalities that make their show fun and entertaining. Songs like Dancin‘on My Grave make you smile and laugh as you bounce to the great beat. Then songs like I Feel Your Pain catch your attention with an unexpected twist. The harmonies are amazing. Don, the lead singer keeps your smiling, Jay keeps the picture perfect and Mike pulls out the fiddle, making the show complete. This is definitely a band I would score a perfect 10! I can’t wait to hear them on radio; I know they will be there soon.

Behind the scenes with Don, Mike and Jay
“Find something you love to do; then find a way to make money at it.” This is the advice that stuck in Mike Ulvila’s mind as he made the decision to become a professional musician. All of Savannah Jack have found a great way to do this. Their excitement and love for music and entertaining comes through clearly as they charm their audience with an amazing show.

This trio of talent begins with lead singer Don Gatlin. Don started singing at 5 years old. He found that he loved music and singing, so later on he went into the music business. We are all glad he did. Don writes most of Savannah Jack’s new material. He also has a family, coaches his sons little league team and keeps in shape by playing ball himself.

Jay Darby and Mike Ulvila completed the band about 4 years ago. Jay, a harmony singer, guitar player, and obvious body builder joined the band through some mutual friends. Mike came along completing the band and even naming it, Savannah Jack, partially after his children. Mike plays many instruments, but sticks primarily with fiddle and guitar for Savannah Jack shows. Both are fantastic harmony singers and all around musicians.

Their manager, Howard Fields said the first time he heard them together, he knew they were “something special.” I would have to agree. Their perfect harmonies, creative music, original songs, and just plain fun shows make me want to hear more. They all credit the greats like the Eagles, Gatlin Brothers, George Strait and The Beatles for inspiring their talent and love of music. I was not around for all of those bands great careers, but I can definitely see the great potential in Savannah Jack.
