The Wildcard Family Revival has a sound that might best be described as the soundtrack to a modern day medicine show. When asked about her band's sound, violinist Alejandra de la Perez muses, “What is that? Is it country? Folk rock? Punk? What is it? It’s Wildcard Family Revival!”

Originally formed as a duo, the band came together more fully in the summer of 2007 through a network of friends hanging out in the bars of East Nashville. Frontman, Danny Wildcard leads the sextet, handling lead vocals and the electric banjo. Johnny Foodstamp takes care of some vocals, guitar, and the Rubik’s cube.

The rhythm section includes rhythm guitarist, Bobby Dean Haircut; bassist, Long John Ragtime; and Agnes Headrush, Sr. on percussion (including washboard, bucket, and bongos). Rounding out the band is violinist Alejandra de la Perez and Pappa Kali Flaure on mandolin.

Sporting a totally unique sound, the Revival draws from a wide range of influences. Their music has been described as “psychobilly backwards swampy country punk,” but even that doesn’t really fully give you a sense of their songs of insanity and heartbreak. Referencing his own lyrics, Danny quoted this about the band: “Oh Lord, how can it be? The preacher man says that you lost faith in me.” The music of the Wildcard Family Revival may be difficult to describe, but it is an experience you won’t soon forget.

Their debut 12 song CD came out April 6 and is available for purchase at Grimey’s on 8th Avenue in Nashville or from any member of the band.
