Greg Walters was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and made the move to Nashville four years ago to attend Belmont University. “I play R&B,” Greg explains. “I play piano, I sing R & B, I write all my own songs and I’m doing it in Nashville. There are not a whole lot of us around doing that. I want the world to know that I’m something different.”
Heather Wiggins grew up in the tiny town of Brunswick, Georgia and has been living in Nashville for 4 ½ years. She graduated from Georgia Southern College with a degree in Psychology. Heather describes her music as “soulful country music. My roots are Otis Redding and Conway Twitty, total opposite ends of the spectrum. Any music with some soul in and it I love it.”
Greg began playing the piano in third grade. “I was playing piano long before I was singing.” By age 11, he was playing piano and singing back up in church.
Heather’s love of music came a little later. “I was 17 when I realized I could sing, that’s a little bit older than most folks who start singing at age 3. I was a senior in high school. We had a choir called Production Company. We did a big show at the end of the year. I was a first soprano and I thought, ‘I’m going to try out for a solo.’ I sang it for my mama and she started crying and I was like, ‘are you crying coz it was bad or because it was good?’ She said, ‘because it was good!’ That was my first time I performed in public...(it) was horrible, so bad. We have it on video.”
Heather and Greg both cite their parents as being their main source of inspiration. Heather says, “My called ‘Leave It Alone.’ That song came out of a difficult time in my life. Everyone wanted to talk about my problems, but I just wanted to ‘Leave It Alone.’ A lot of my songs are like that. But there are also songs that I’ve written that have absolutely nothing to do with my life. Those songs usually start with a melody. Sometimes a melody will come to me and I’ll just write a song based on how that melody makes me feel.”
Heather says, “I write a lot of songs that come from my own experiences, but I also get material from movies and watching other people. I’ll see an interesting situation and think, “Hmm, how can I make that into a song? I think we’re both really proud of being songwriters, that we write our own stuff. I want people to know that my songs come from somewhere and they mean something to me. I hope they touch people. My ultimate goal anytime I write or sing a song is to make people feel something and when someone and says, ‘you know I just went through a breakup and I was crying during your song’ that’s like the best compliment I could ever get.”
Recently, Greg recorded a five-song EP that was released in March. Heather just released her first full-length album in December 2007.
Looking toward the future, Heather explains, “I always want to be doing music, even when I’m old, old, old and will be croaking out songs. I hope to have sold a billion, billion records and everybody know my name and everybody know my music, well not everybody, coz not everybody is gonna love it.” Greg agrees, “Ten years in the future I want to still be doing music and be able to look back at this moment and say yeah, I was on the right path.”
