Chosen from over two thousand musicians, Michala placed second in an online music contest, she sang in Washington , D.C on November 16, 2008, at a benefit concert. “When I perform, I see all the smiling faces from people in the audience, and that makes me feel so wonderful - that I have an opportunity to share my voice with people.”
Michala, who turned fifteen on July 22, credits her family for supporting her desire to perform. “I come from a very loving family. If it weren't for my Mom and Dad, encouraging me to follow my dreams, and being there to drive me to every performance or lesson, then I would not be able to continue pursuing my passion. They are so wonderful! I also have two sisters, Carissa, who is 20 years old and in University, and Katryna, who is 13 years old, in grade 8. I am the middle child. About a year ago, we talked my parents into getting us a dog. We have never had pets before. Our dog is a Shih-poo and his name is Chico . He is so CUTE!!”
Always in the back of her mind is the guidance and strength of someone very special, “Ever since I was a little girl, I would always dress up as an entertainer and prance around the house singing. My grandfather used to always say, ‘that girl's going to be a singer when she grows up.’ Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away a few years ago, and never had the opportunity to see me perform. But, I know he is with me, when I do.”
Michala describes herself as, “a very laid back person, and despite my busy life, I never get stressed out. I would want everyone to know that I am a very kind-hearted person, compassionate, fun-loving and care deeply about other people.”
This accomplished, pop-singing, teenager loves performing and cites acting, dance, guitar and scrapbooking as other activities she enjoys. “Along with singing, I love to act. I can then put myself into another character, which no one knows, and that's so much fun. I have participated in many theatre performances, and it was great fun. This past summer, I held the lead role in Cinderella, WOW, what an experience. After each of the performances, the cast would have a meet and greet with the audience. My cast members used to say, ‘the little girls only want to see Cinderella’. That was such an awesome feeling. And, what can I say about my first kiss with the Prince – well, I won't!”
As for her future, Michala has her goals in mind, “ I love to sing and perform. We all have dreams, but mine is ‘making it huge in this world’. I want everyone to recognize my name and say, ‘I remember that girl’. I'd love to pick up and move to a larger city where there are more opportunities for me.”
